Be A Student Branch Mentor
IEEE Kerala Mentor Networks an initiative designed to maximize the interaction between IEEE Student Branches and the Section. Student engineers need guidance and frequent interaction with Section members to feel responsi-ble like true IEEE members. The role of a Branch Mentor is meant to augment the valuable contributions of the Counselor, who is a College faculty, active in IEEE and its activities, and serves as an advisor to the Branch and its student Officers.
Who can be a mentor?
A Section member, not associated with the Student Branch/Institution, whom shall spare at-least 2 hours per month to provide guidance, serve as a liaison between the Student members and Section Executive, and encour-age new graduates to stay active in the IEEE.
What should a mentor do?
Some suggested duties for the Branch mentor include:
- Meet with Student Branch members regularly.
- Assist the Student Branch in developing effective programs.
- Provide a dependable bridge between the Student Branch and local Section.
- Work closely with the Student Branch Counselor and the Section Student Activities Board.
The outcome?
Some expected benefits are:
- Increased interaction between Student Branches and the Section;
- Improved continuity of Student Branch Operations;
- Improved retention of recent graduate members;
- Improved student/faculty/industry cooperation;
- Increased young member participation in Section activities.
