20 October 2020 6 PM to 7 PM: Prof Stephen Tong, Mercy Translational Obstetrics Group/University of Melbourne "Saving mothers & babies: Developing, Diagnostics & Therapeutics to tackle major pregnancy complications"

Professor Stephen Tong's team at Mercy Perinatal is developing novel diagnostics that flag mothers and babies at risk, so they can be safely treated before adverse outcomes occur. The concept is simple. Many major pregnancy complications occur because the placenta – the life support system – fails. The team is hunting for molecules in the mum's blood that are increased (or decreased) during the window of time when the placenta is unwell and starting to fail. Using these diagnostics, Stephen's team aims to swiftly identify those at the highest risk and deliver life-saving treatments for our most vulnerable mothers and babies.

COMING SOON---

28th October 2020, 12 PM: Recent Spectrum Developments in the United States

About

Recently, there have been several important regulatory actions in the United States in response to industry developments of the next generation of mobile technologies. Following the release of several GHz of spectrum in the mmwave and sub-mmwave ranges a few years ago, the US FCC embarked upon releasing additional spectrum in the mid-ranges to accelerate the expansion of 5G. These efforts, aside from being exceptionally expeditious, have used novel approaches to arrive at suitable regulatory solutions. From financial incentives to FSS operators in C-band to devising an Automated Frequency Coordination (AFC) vehicle in 6 GHz, these bold solutions are leading to several “first of its kind” solutions, paving the way towards taking full advantage of recent technological developments such as 5G and Wi-Fi 6E.

In this presentation, we look at background and outcome of the FCC’s proceedings related to these bands.

Speaker: Reza Arefi leads Emerging Spectrum Strategies and Planning at Intel and Vice President of Global mobile Suppliers Association (GSA)

Time and date: 28 Oct 2020, 12pm

29 October 2020, 1 PM to 2 PM: SAR and Temperature Rise in a Human Head due to EM Radiation,

Organised by IEEE AP-MTT Chapter.

Presenter: Prof. Atef Elsherbeni, Distinguished Professor, Colorado School of Mines, USA.
Time  & Date: 1:00 to 2:00 pm, Thursday 29 October 2020.
Synopsis: This on-line presentation will focus on the development and simulation procedure to determine the specific absorption rate (SAR) and the corresponding temperature rise due to electromagnetic waves incident on a human head. The human head model is based on medical magnetic resonance images (MRI) that are discretized to fit in the simulation domain.

31st of October 2020, 9 AM to 12 PM: Transformer Design and Design Parameters

Organised by IEEE Power Energy Society (PES) VIC Chapter.

Date & time: Saturday, the 31st October 2020 from 9.00 am to 12.00 pm

Online Meeting Link:  Online Link: https://deakin.zoom.us/j/97296206012

Abstract: The presentation will be on the Basics of Transformer Design. The presentation will explain how a transformer designer interprets parameters such as MVA, Lightning impulse, Switching impulse, and Percentage impedance. It will touch on Power Rating [MVA], Core, Rated voltages, Insulation Coordination, Short-circuit Impedance, Short-circuit Forces, Loss Evaluation, Temperature limits, Cooling, and Sound level. It will also explain overload and life expectancy of a transformer as well as when Delta winding is needed in a Wye-Wye connection. The presentation will answer why North America likes to regulate from the low voltage side whereas Europe regulates from the high voltage side.
