Abstract of the topic: With 86 billion neurons and 100 trillion synapses (exceeds the number of stars in the Milky Way Galaxy), the human brain is the most complex system in the Universe. Yet the human brain consumes very little energy while performing accurate information transmission, efficient computation and robust learning in a highly noisy environment. In this talk, we will investigate the reasons that makes the brain the "Ultimate Machine" - an important one being the presence of `Neuro-Chaos` at various spatio-temporal scales. Sensitive dependence on initial conditions is the hallmark of Chaos - deterministic yet unpredictable in the long run and random-like behaviour exhibited by non-linear systems. Chaos has been found in weather systems, in neuronal firings in the brain, in heart beat intervals, in number systems, in chemical, biological and social systems- and even in Recurrent Neural Networks. Can Machine Learning learn from Neuro-Chaos? Can we design AI/ML systems which are inspired from the workings of the brain? We will explore some concrete ways of incorporating Neuro-Chaos in learning algorithms to yield superior performance. Applications to identifying SARS-CoV-2 virus (cause of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic) will also be discussed.
