COVID-19 App Development Contest: Extension of Last Date of Submission: April 04, 2020

Thanks for the overwhelming response to the app contest. We have received a ton of enquires and registrations. Responding to the recent developments, we have added a few more requirements to the app. It is necessary to add links/integration to donate to various different central and state government funds. Also, a direct link to join the Corona helpline whatsapp channel setup by Government of India.  With these, we have also extended the deadline for submission. 
 
Saturday, April 04, 2020 is the new deadline for submission. 
 
All teams are requested to submit 5 screenshots and a screen recording (30s long) in the portal

You are invited to participate in the IEEE Bangalore Section's COVID-19 App Development contest. This is an attempt to raise awareness around the COVID-19 pandemic amongst the community. Teams with a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 4 can register and participate in this contest to build and publish a mobile app on respective distribution channels for both Android and iOS. Having  one non-student member (Member and above grade) in the team is encouraged for each team. IEEE Bangalore Section has list down some of the resources for inclusion in the app. As a basic requirement, participants are requested to only use official links, numbers from WHO, Govt of India and not use any material from media sources which are not official. Some resources are listed as below

Guidelines

Include IEEE Bangalore Section logo in the welcome screen 

Home screen should include General public advice (Feel free to use the downloadable resources and video links mentioned here) 

The app may include following sections but not limited to:

  1. Infection protection and control / WASH
  2. Guidance for schools/workplaces & institutions
  3. Points of entry / mass gatherings
  4. Reduction of transmission from animals to humans 
  5. 12 guides to help work from home 
  6. Reminders to wash hands, drinking warm water, eating citric fruits/immunity builder fruits 
  7. Location finder and raising alert, if someone goes out from his/her home
  8. Ability to update Govt Guidelines from time to time as issued. This can be a page which can be hosted on github
  9. Statistics about the people affected in the world,  India and Karnataka/ Bangalore section – If possible show https://www.covidvisualizer.com otherwise add a link 
  10. Include state wise statistics from https://www.mohfw.gov.in
  11. Links to websites such as WHO, MOH GOI
  12. Twitter feed from WHO, MOH GOI

Please follow standard UI guidelines for the app as prescribed by the platform.

Use charts for all statistics purposes.

Please host the code either on GitHub or Bitbucket. Use of CI/CD is encouraged. Both platforms provide free CI features. Additionally, tools such as Bitrise are excellent for such purposes.

  • Opportunity to present their work at the IEEE Bangalore-Humanitarian Technology Conference on Oct 8-10 at BLDE's V P Dr. P G Halakati College of Engineering and Technology, Vijiyapur, Karnataka.
  • Support for registration/travel to a conference or registration cost towards a training course of choice up to Rs. 10,000 per team.
