[IEEE Kerala Section] JYOTHIEEE from Kerala to Nepal

Dear Member,
 
As Nepal recovers slowly from the devastating effects of the Earth Quake that left more than 8000 dead and twice as many injured, international community is ushering in with help. As the world's largest professional society, IEEE is also exploring ways to join the rehabilitation efforts by leveraging technology.
 
Kerala Section is proud to lead this initiative, with two of our members, Mr. Amarnath Raja (IEEE Humanitarian Ad hoc Committee) and Mr. Jayakrishnan (Chair, IEEE SIGHT Kerala) visiting Nepal, taking stock of the ground situation, meeting stakeholders, identifying the right areas for assistance, and making recommendations to global IEEE.
 
Gaining first hand from this experience, we have conceived JyothIEEE as a unique initiative to supply 100 solar lanterns as a token of our support from Kerala Section. We hope this would serve remote villages disconnected from the grid as an interim relief from darkness as well as an eco-friendly option in the long run.
 
This project is being carried out with help of IEEE India office (shipment), IEEE Nepal Subsection (logistics in Nepal), and with guidance from IEEE global leadership and Region 10.
