7. Next Section Meeting
1. Message from the Chair
The best way to spend funds allocated to the section is on events and opportunities that allow as many members as possible to engage and extract value. That is the reason we commenced the NSW flagship event UNITE in 2018. This year we are taking the event to the next level and have added a technical and professional development component. We have most of the events set in stone and just waiting for confirmations on a few more. I strongly encourage all members to attend as there is something for everyone. But make sure you register. You need to register for each of the components – the networking component and each of the technical sessions that you would like to attend. Space is limited so register to avoid disappointment! So please participate, gain some knowledge, grow your network and indulge in some free food. Don't miss out!
Also, at UNITE the Education Chapter is holding its first poster competition. This is a great way to disseminate your projects and research to a very diverse audience. You never know who will look at your work and provide feedback or discuss further opportunities. Also think about research outcome reporting. I strongly recommend all supervisors encourage their students to apply!
If you know someone that has made a substantial contribution to the IEEE please take the time to nominate them for the NSW Outstanding Volunteer Awards. Volunteering is the foundation of how the IEEE operates and the section wants to recognise such efforts!
If you are interested in giving back to the community and taking on a leadership role nominate for a position on the section executive. See Circuit for details.
Due to UNITE there will be no section meeting in August.
Have a great July and please feel free to get in touch with any feedback you may have on what we do here in NSW.
Sasha Nikolic - Chair, IEEE NSW Section

3. Opportunities
1. Disseminate your project/research Student Poster Competition @UNITE2019
Think research grant, think research output. What is a free way to disseminate your work especially if you have no grant or little funds? Present your poster at UNITE and expose your work to a very diverse audience. What opportunities await?
2. Exhibit at UNITE2019 at the cost of a donation
Last chance to take the initiative and promote your research, research group, company or products to the IEEE community. Final deadline 12 July 2019.

3. Call for nominations - NSW Outstanding Volunteer Awards
The awards recognize the contribution NSW members make to the IEEE and its vision of advancing technology for the benefit of humanity. The four awards are:
- IEEE NSW Outstanding Volunteer
- IEEE NSW Outstanding Young Professional
- IEEE NSW Outstanding Women in Engineering Volunteer
- IEEE NSW Outstanding Student Volunteer
The winner of each award will be presented with a plaque at the annual NSW Section AGM held in November. The winners of each category will be nominated by the NSW Section to the respective Region 10 and Australia Council awards. Deadline 31 August.
