Effective Communication Series - Dr. Chandra Sekhar Seelamantula on 13 March

Signal Processing Society (SPS) Chapter of IEEE NITK Student Branch presents Enlighten: Effective Communication Series.
Speaker: Dr Chandra Sekhar Seelamantula, Dept. of Electrical Engineering, IISc. Bangalore
Title: Orthogonal Projections and Shannon's Sampling Theorem
Venue: Lecture Hall Complex C, NITK
Time: 5.15 PM, 13th March 2019
Abstract:
Shannon's sampling lies at the heart of all modern day digital signal and image processing devices. In this blackboard tutorial, we shall start with the fundamental concepts related to vectors, projections, orthogonal bases and develop Shannon's sampling ab initio from the point of view of orthogonal projections. We shall also address the issues related to critical sampling and oversampling within this framework.
About the speaker:
Dr. Chandra Sekhar Seelamantula (M’99–SM’13) was born in Gollepalem, India, in 1976. He received the B.Eng. degree with a Gold Medal and the Best Thesis Award with a specialization in electronics and communication engineering from the University College of Engineering, Osmania University, Hyderabad, India, in 1999, and the Ph.D. degree from the Department of Electrical Communication Engineering, Indian Institute of Science (IISc.), Bangalore, Bengaluru, India, in 2005. During April 2005–March 2006, he was a Technology Consultant with M/s. ESQUBE Communication Solutions Private Limited, Bangalore, India, and developed proprietary audio coding solutions. In April 2006, he joined the Biomedical Imaging Group, École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Lausanne, Switzerland, as a Postdoctoral Fellow and specialized in the fields of image processing, optical-coherence tomography, holography, splines, sparse signal processing, and sampling theories. In 2009, he joined the Department of Electrical Engineering, IISc., Bangalore, where he is currently an Associate Professor and directs the Spectrum Laboratory. He is also an Associate Faculty with the Centre for Neuroscience, IISc., Bangalore. During 2013–2017, he was also the Vice-Chair for the IEEE Signal Processing Society Bangalore Chapter, and an Associate Editor for the IEEE Signal Processing Letters. He is currently a Senior Area Editor for the IEEE Signal Processing Letters, and an Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Image Processing and SPIE Journal of Electronic Imaging. In 2013, he was a recipient of the Prof. Priti Shankar Teaching Award from the IISc.
