Call for Applications for Converged Cloud Communication Technologies Project – IIT Hyderabad
Converged Cloud Communication Technologies project is a 5 year 23 crore project sponsored by Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY), Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Government of India. The project has additional contributions from private funding sources such as Samsung and Intel.
The project invites applications from exceptionally talented students throughout the year. Candidates with a degree in B.Tech/M.Tech in EEE/ECE/CS are eligible to apply.
Written test/interviews will be conducted for the following streams
- Communications and signal processing
- Computer Science and Engineering
Project staff may apply for 3-year M.Tech or PhD admission at IIT Hyderabad during the course of their employment. Please see IITH departmental requirements for M.Tech/PhD admissions.
This project is run by a faculty team from EE and CS departments working on problems related to Communications, Signal Processing, Computing, Microelectronics and VLSI design.
The main objective of this project is to develop prototype products leading to commercialization of converged cloud communication and broadband technologies. The main deliverables of this project include: Generation of IPR through international patent filing, Technology Transfer (ToT) to telecom equipment manufacturers and chipset vendors, Spin-off startup companies that commercialize the technologies developed by the project.
Specifically, the following prototype products will be developed:
- Converged cloud radio access network (CCRAN) prototype product. This product enables convergence between multiple radio access network (RAN) technologies. Specifically, we enable convergence between cloud based next generation cellular and non-cellular networks. The prototype product supports machine-to-machine (M2M) communication as well as Internet-of-Things (IoT) that are implemented using a combination of cellular, WLAN and ZigBee standards
- Cloud radio access network (CRAN) base station (BS) prototype product based on next generation 5G cellular systems.
- Integrated M2M/IoT chipsets based on next generation cellular and WiFi/ZigBee standards that acts as gateways to the cloud network
The proposed prototype products will be tested using lab/field trials before delivering them to telecom manufacturers and chipset vendors.
The patents generated in the project will be inserted in the global wireless standards through participation in 3GPP (Third Generation Partnership Project) as well as Indian Telecom Standards Organizations.
The project would spin-off startup companies that will commercialize the prototype products as well as the IPR generated in the project.
