1. Message from the Chair

Dear IEEE Member

Thank you once again for renewing your IEEE membership. On the 24th of February memberships were deactivated for non-renewals. I hope that over the coming months you see greater membership value coming out of the NSW Section and you help encourage those that did not renew to join once again. Free student memberships are now available with specific terms and conditions. If you know of any students (3rd year and above) that would benefit from being introduced to the IEEE please point them to the latest Circuit Newsletter. We also need to bring back to life student branches at Western Sydney University, University of Sydney, Charles Sturt University and Newcastle University. If you could help us with this process please reach out to me.

Recently, some IEEE members have won awards including Stefan Mozar winning the Engineers Australia’s Information, Telecommunications, and Electronics Engineering (ITEE) College’s 2017 David Robinson Award. If you know an IEEE member that has won an award please reach out and let our Circuit editor bill.sloman@ieee.org know.

The NSW Section is the major sponsor for TENSYMP2018 being held in Sydney in July. Please look at the information below and in Circuit and consider submitting a paper.

We have lots of events coming up over the next month. Most are being held in the northern parts of Sydney. I hope that in the coming months we will be able to start advertising more events across more locations across NSW. I also hope to see more events targeted at our Young Professional and Industry members. Please reach out to me with ideas and suggestions.

Due to the large workload in start of year administrative matters, progress with the Strategic Plan has been slow. However, we hope to pick this up over the coming months.

I recently attended the R10 meeting. Key areas of focus in our region include improving conference quality, student retention and improving industry engagement. In May, the IEEE will completely overhaul member information to comply with GDPR. Also, of interest the IEEE is looking at restructuring the regions.

Don’t forget the section now has both a Facebook and LinkedIn page so if you use either medium please join.

Please feel free to reach out to me with any suggestions or comments. Have a great March!

Sasha Nikolic - Chair, IEEE NSW Section
