Women in Engineering (WIE) affinity group of IEEE SJEC student branch will be conducting a debate competition “War of Words” on the occasion of International Women’s day on March 8, 2018 from 2:00PM on wards in Fr Fred Memorial Hall.

Rules and Regulations for “War of Words”

Topic: Related to gender equality

No of teams: Max 10 teams (Based on registration-FCFS)

No of members in a team: 2

Open for boys & girls of all engineering branches of all years(SJEC and other colleges)

No registration fee

• Registered teams need to be prepared to argue in favor of and against the topics related to gender equality.

• There will be two rounds (prelims & final).

• Topics for both the rounds will be related to gender equality. Exact topic will be given 10 minutes prior to the start of each round. Preliminary round

• By way of picking up of chits team arguing in favor or against will be decided on the day of the competition. Order of the teams will also be decided in the same way.

• The time for first round of argument is 2 minutes.

• Finally, each team gets an opportunity for rebutting the arguments (1 minute) of the opponents.

• Based on the argument, performance, behavior and team spirit, a total of 4 teams will be selected for the final round. Final Round

• One member from the team will speak for the topic and other will speak against the topic.

• Team member speaking “for the topic” will speak for 2 minutes.

• Team member speaking “against the topic” will speak for 2 minutes.

• Followed by two rounds of rebuttal of 1 minute each per team member.

• Vulgarity of any kind and use of offensive words will lead to disqualification.

• Judges decision will be final.

Registered participants are requested to be present at Fr Fred Memorial Hall, Academic block I at 1:30 PM on March 8,2018.
