Multifunctional Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces

The sixth-generation (6G) mobile communication will take advantage of software reconfiguration solutions/entities to develop and optimize a smart radio environment, thus ensuring uninterrupted and enhanced quality of service (QoS). The deployment of reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RISs) can be regarded as one of such promising solutions to achieve a smart radio environment.
By introducing the RISs into the heterogeneous networks, it enables multiple parallel links across different service networks to support robust communications. Therefore, I will revisit the various FR3-oriented (X/Ku-band) multifunctional RISs developed in my group in recent years. These solutions feature wide-angle/multi-beam scanning, polarization switching, multi-band or wideband coverage, filtering response, and so on. By tailoring their operating modes, these RISs can lend themselves to diverse application scenarios in a timely manner.
