IEEE Seminar - Smart Cities: enabling technologies

Dear IEEE members

IEEE NSW Joint Chapter for Photonics, Circuits & Systems, Solid-State Circuits & Electron Devices

We are very pleased to put together this special seminar. The seminar will be focused on some enabling technical aspects of smart cities. We have lined up industry speakers to give their insights into their specialty areas.

  • Date: Thursday 27th April
  • Time: 5:30pm for a 5:45pm start, 7:00pm finish
  • Location: Lendlease, Level 14, Tower Three, International Towers Sydney, Exchange Place, 300 Barangaroo Avenue, Barangaroo NSW 2000 (see attached map)

Seminar Overview

Imagine the smart city of the future, where high bandwidth wireless communications and optical networks allow congestion free connectivity for people, public services, building services and all manner of IoT devices.

Where there are no longer any desk phones, and mobility means seamless access to data anywhere and everywhere.

Where and data from a multitude of sensors and controllers monitor and manage the built environment efficiently and traditional building services like air conditioning systems communicate directly to access control systems to allow effective dynamic control of cool air flow through ingress and egress points at peak rush hours in a commercial building.

A city where predictive analysis of people movements and events in public spaces automatically frees more server CPU cycles and increases bandwidth and internet access without human intervention.

All the technology described above is either available today, or will be commercially deployed within the next 4 years.  5G, the Internet of Things (IoT), Machine to Machine (M2M) direct communication, Big Data, Artificial Neural Networks & AI.
