The IEEE Boise Section and IEEE Boise Power and Energy Society Chapter are proud to be Platinum Sponsors for the 22nd Annual Idaho Regional Future City Competition.
We are excited to invite you to volunteer to be part of our judging team that helps select which team gets our IEEE special award.
Date & Location: Saturday, January 10, 2026 Jordan Ballroom, Student Union Building, Boise State University
This Year’s Theme: “Farm to Table” 6th–8th grade teams will present their visionary future cities that minimize food waste from farm to table while keeping residents healthy and safe. Students deliver a city model, project essay, short presentation, and Q&A—all developed using engineering design and project-management skills.
Judging Opportunity & Time Commitment
- One or at most two online meetings before the competition to review what to expect during the competition, the judging process, and scoring rubrics. We try to keep these meetings well under an hour.
- Special Awards Judging: 8:00 a.m. – ~12:00 p.m. Visit ~15–20 team tables, ask questions, and select the most outstanding teams. Fun, focused, and finished by noon.
- You're welcome to stay for the award presentations from 1pm to 4pm, but it's not expected.
No prior Future City experience is required—we provide training before the competition, and many engineers, scientists, planners, and educators return year after year because the students’ creativity and passion are truly inspiring. The judging team helps develop the scoring rubrics before the competition.
Special Request We are also looking one or two experienced volunteers willing to serve as Lead Judge(s) to help organize the judging team and coordinate on competition day. If you’ve judged before and are interested in a leadership role, please let us know!
