A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF ONE STUDENT'S PATH THROUGH COLLEGE
James Hand is a DoD SMART Scholar, INCOSE IS Best Student Paper awardee, and PhD Candidate in the ERAU EECS department. His talk will review one of the many pathways that students can find themselves taking in academic and professional careers. He will spend time discussing possible undergraduate resources available to students, his internship experiences, pathways to graduate school, a look at government work, and the realities of PhD level research. James will also discuss some of the research work he has done with Dr. Watson's Biologically Inspired Design-for-Resilience Lab.
Our second presentation will be by Aidan Panter and Aaron Sattler
HAM (HIGH ALTITUDE MONITOR) CORE & POWER DISTRIBUTION BOARDS FOR SOUNDING ROCKET
This presentation focuses on two custom boards that are central to the Icarus Sounding Rocket Program's PLUMBBOB sounding rocket avionics: the HAM Core and the Power Distribution board. Both boards were developed with the IEEE ERAU Daytona Beach chapter. We will briefly outline the Core’s processing and I/O roles, along with the Power board’s delivery of regulated and protected power to critical flight subsystems. The prototype stack supports the test flight on October 11. Meanwhile, the complete avionics system will include other partnered boards, such as pyro, TTC/telemetry and tracking, and GPS, along with the necessary harnessing. These components will be integrated into the fully custom final rocket, which is set for December. The talk will focus on design intent, key interfaces, and how these two boards serve as the foundation for a complete student-built avionics suite.
Please see the attached Newsletter for information from our Chair Dr. Keith Garfield for Section information, a list of officers and volunteers, our social media information and the PE Column. A map of the ERAU campus is in the newsletter showing the location of College of Arts and Science building and parking lot locations.
All IEEE members and guests are welcome to attend. Please contact one of the following to let us know if you’ll be attending so we have a rough count of attendees, or for more information or questions:
