Call for Nominations: 2026 IEEE AP-S Field Awards
Call for Nominations for the 2026 IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society Field Awards
Nominations are solicited for the 2026 IEEE AP-S field awards. There are eight field awards that the Society will give in 2026. A brief description of each award and a template of the nomination form are provided below. All nominations are subject to the terms in the AP-S and IEEE guidelines detailed in the Operating Manuals and Bylaws. Please note that self-nominations are strongly discouraged. Nominations for candidates who have received a field award in the past two years are equally discouraged, as are nominations for candidates who have previously received the Distinguished Achievement Award.
The deadline for nominations is 31 December 2025.
Distinguished Achievement Award
The Distinguished Achievement Award is given annually to recognize outstanding career achievement by an individual in the field of antennas and propagation. Preference is given to a member of the Society.
The criteria considered by the AP-S Awards Committee include:
- Contributions to fundamental electromagnetic theory and its advanced applications
- Contributions to the theory of antennas
- New methods and approaches to analysis, synthesis and design of antennas
- New methods of analysis of propagation of electromagnetic waves
- Other new contributions relevant to the field of antennas and propagation
Chen-To Tai Distinguished Educator Award
The Chen-To Tai Distinguished Educator Award is given annually to recognize outstanding career achievement by a distinguished educator in the field of antennas and propagation.
The criteria considered by the AP-S Awards Committee include:
- Excellence in teaching
- Involvement with and direction of students to prepare them for effective careers in electromagnetics
- Curriculum development with inclusion of current research and knowledge that reflects the state of the art in courses
- Authorship of research and course material
John Kraus Antenna Award
This award, established by John D. Kraus, honors an individual or team that has made a significant advance in antenna technology.
The criteria considered by the AP-S Awards Committee include:
- A new or substantially improved method or device for radiating or receiving electromagnetic waves
- A new concept for the electromagnetic transmission, reception, or imaging of signals, an innovative use of materials or configuration of structures to achieve better electromagnetic performance
- A design that yields a heretofore unknown capability
Lot Shafai Mid‐Career Distinguished Achievement Award
This award recognizes the past technical accomplishments and future potential of an outstanding woman of mid-career status in the field of antennas and propagation.
Eligible nominees consist of women who are members of the IEEE, less than 41 years of age on 31 December preceding the year of nomination, whose prior technical accomplishments and future potential1, earmark them as current and future leaders in the field of antennas and propagation, as well as role models for future generations of women in the field.
1 For 2026, the candidate must be 40 or less on 31 Dec. 2026.
Donald G. Dudley Jr. Undergraduate Teaching Award
This award recognizes outstanding and original contributions to undergraduate education by an individual assistant professor or equivalent at an accredited institution of engineering education. The educator should be in the general area of electromagnetic education, including theory, analytical solutions, numerical methods, antennas and propagation, phenomena visualization and measurements.
The criteria considered by the AP-S Awards Committee include:
- Development and implementation of teaching/learning tools that are or can be made available to students and instructors worldwide, and have gained documented acceptance by students and professors
- Documented excellence in undergraduate teaching
- Involvement with and direction of undergraduate students to prepare them for successful engineering careers
- Curriculum development with inclusion of current research and knowledge that reflects the state of the art in courses
- Authorship of educational material
Harrington-Mittra Award in Computational Electromagnetics
The Harrington-Mittra Award in Computational Electromagnetics is given annually to recognize outstanding achievement in Computational Electromagnetics. Preference is given to a member of the Society.
The criteria considered by the AP-S Awards Committee include:
- Fundamental contributions to theory and applications of integral equations, differential equations and asymptotic methods in electromagnetics
- Innovative numerical methods for Antennas and EM Scattering problems
- Innovative numerical methods for analysis of propagation of EM waves
IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society Distinguished Industry Leader Award
This award recognizes an industry executive whose leadership in a large company or smaller consulting firm has resulted in major advances, new directions and developments in the antenna and electromagnetics industry. Specifically, the goal is to recognize an electromagnetics-trained industry executive who has played a major leadership role in research or development and the introduction of antenna related systems, devices, applications or services that have significantly impacted the global community.
The award is open to individuals at any level who were industry employees at the time of the accomplishments being recognized. The recipient must be a member of the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society for a minimum of three years prior to the nomination. The criteria considered by the AP-S Awards Committee include executive leadership resulting in major advances, new directions and developments in the antenna and electromagnetics area. Evaluation is based on factors such as the impact on the industry, global acceptance of products and services, financial success and growth of the business, ubiquity of the products and services, emulation of the contributions by the competition, and the degree of the candidates global recognition. Other selection criteria include time of service and specific innovations.
IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society Industrial Innovation Award
This award recognizes major industrial accomplishments, standards, deployment of important processes or products that are of substantial benefit to the public in the field of antenna and electromagnetic technologies and visible beyond the company or institution where the contribution was made.
