IEEE RAS TC on Robotics for Nuclear Environments

Dear colleagues,

We hope this message finds you well.

We are pleased to announce a renewed effort to revitalise the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society Technical Committee on Robotics for Nuclear Environments (formerly Robotics and Automation in Nuclear Facilities). After a period of dormancy, a new team of co-chairs has been appointed, and we are excited to reconnect with the community and explore how this committee can best serve and support researchers, developers, and practitioners in the field.

We’d like to take this opportunity to introduce the new co-chairs:

Kuniaki Kawabata, Japan Atomic Energy Agency, Ibaraki, Japan

Eloise Matheson, European Organization for Nuclear Research, Switzerland

Young Soo Park, Argonne National Laboratory, IL, United States

Robert Skilton, UK Atomic Energy Authority, United Kingdom

Simon Watson, University of Manchester, Manchester, United Kingdom

Takashi Yoshimi, Shibaura Institute of Technology, Tolyo, Japan

Together, we bring a strong mix of academic and industrial experience across fission, fusion, decommissioning, and high-energy physics, and we are passionate about building a vibrant, collaborative international community. We are in particular keen to broaden the membership and attract more researchers to help solve the challenges faced in nuclear facilities.

At this stage, we’re reaching out to:

  • ·        Reconnect with existing members
  • ·        Welcome new members and perspectives
  • ·        Hear your ideas about how the TC can provide value to the community

Above all, we want to ensure the committee serves the needs of its members, and so we’d love to hear your thoughts. What kinds of activities, topics, or collaborations would you find most valuable? How can we support you in your work? If you have suggestions, priorities, or simply want to re-engage with the group, we would love to hear from you.

We’ll be in touch again soon with more ways to get involved. In the meantime, please don’t hesitate to reply to this message if you’d like to share thoughts or connect directly.

With best regards,

Co-Chairs, IEEE RAS Technical Committee on Robotics for Nuclear Environments
