IEEE GRSS UK&Ireland Seminar “Multitemporal SAR: Concepts and Applications”, Dr. Donato Amitrano

Dr Donato Amitrano at the Italian Aerospace Research Centre will present on “Multitemporal SAR: Concepts and Applications” at 12pm (UK time) on 14^th March 2025.

This seminar is hosted by the IEEE GRSS UK&Ireland Chapter and co-hosted by the GRSS Chapters in Italy, Romania and Türkiye.

Abstract

Satellite technologies have widely demonstrated their effectiveness in continuous environmental monitoring and territorial planning and management. Today, the remote sensing community is experiencing an unprecedented abundance of data which is boosting the development of more and more applications for temporal analysis of our rapidly changing planet. This is also true for SAR data which, under the aegis of the Copernicus Programme of the European Space Agency, are distributed free of charge to any kind of user.

However, this huge availability of data is posing new problems to the SAR scientific community. Visualization, change-detection, clustering, and labelling of long time-series in a big-data scenario is still an open problem, as well as their exploitation in combination with other sensory data in a multifrequency environment.

The purpose of this talk is to provide an overview of SAR multitemporal data processing, from visualization to exploitation in applicative scenarios like emergency response or semi-arid environments. The usage of both coherent and detected data will be discussed, as well as possible solution for multifrequency data fusion using artificial intelligence.
