JILS - Transport electrification (EVs) and its impact on the grid

Hi Everyone,

This is the first of our JILS lectures in some time.
To keep the momentum up, suggestions and offers to present lectures would be much appreciated.
Feel free to discuss it with me. The organising committee only has limited contacts from which to organise lectures.
Does the Chapter you are involved in, want to make others aware of what is hot in your area?

It would be good if Members could make the effort to join us at EA's Sydney Office to network as happened before COVID. Presenters also appreciate a live audience.

Hoping you will join either physically or on line.

Regards,
Colin Elston
Vice Chair, NSW Section.

JILS - Transport electrification (EVs) and its impact on the grid

Transport electrification (EVs) and its impact on the grid

Overview

Transport electrification, in conjunction with appropriate electrical and information technology infrastructure, has the potential to improve the sustainability of both transport and energy systems significantly.

This presentation will collate and update information from various presentations by the speaker, including:

  • "The impact of electric vehicles on 'smart grids'", EECON NSW 2015.
  • "Electric vehicles and the grid; intermittent storage balancing intermittent generation", EESA NSW/ACT Annual Conference 2018.
  • "Electric vehicles and the grid: international developments in sustainable energy and transport", EESA July 2020.
  • "Review of fast charging for electrified transport: Demand, Technology, Systems, Planning", Energies 2022.

Learning outcomes

In this presentation, you will learn:

  • international trends in EV technology and usage (light and heavy vehicles, road - marine - air transport)
  • international trends in EV charging technologies (ultrafast charging, wireless power transfer, etc.)
  • potential grid impacts of EV charging (G2V, V2G, V2X, etc.); and
  • planning strategies for coupled infrastructures.
