Second Call for Proposals: IEEE R8 Local Student Paper Contest (LSPC) 2024
Dear Student Branch Leaders,
The IEEE Region 8 Student Activities Committee would like to remind you of the Second Call for proposals for the LSPC 2024, published on the SAC website and social media on June 25. While the First Call was directed towards the IEEE R8 Sections, the Second Call is exclusively for the IEEE R8 Student Branches. Please note: If your Student Branch (SB) belongs to a Section that is organizing a section-wide Student Paper Contest (SPC) and is financially supported by Region 8 this year, then your SB must participate in the sectional SPC and is not eligible for a separate grant.
Important Dates:
- Deadline for SB proposal submission: July 25, 2024
- Announcement of funding decisions: 2-3 weeks after the proposal submission deadline
- Event Implementation: August - October 2024
- Deadline for report submission: November 15, 2024
- Funding Release: December 2024
Proposals should be a maximum of 6 pages (excluding the endorsement letter); use Times New Roman font, size 11; be submitted in PDF format; include an endorsement letter as an attachment (for Student Branches, only the Student Branch Chair or Counselor can provide an endorsement). Important: The applicant and the endorser cannot be the same person.
The proposal should contain the following information:
- Summary of the proposal (max. 250 words)
- Description of the Local Student Paper Contest
- Proposed Title, Date, Venue, and Organizing Team
- Preliminary Budget
- Short timeframe with milestones
- Suggested Event Program and Time Schedule

Funding: Entries that meet the minimum standards will receive up to $300 per Student Branch as secured funding. The funding covers up to 80% of the total budget. If your funding is approved, you must organize the event and submit an outcome report to qualify for disbursement. The funding will be transferred to the (parent) Section’s bank account after the final report is approved.
