Kristian Weegink will be leading a discussion of Steven Mallet’s paper on understanding deep networks (AKA deep scatter spectrum). This is a very interesting paper, which sheds some light on what the heck deep convolution neural networks (CNNs) get up to when you train them to classify image data.
