We hope this email finds you well and enthusiastic about the upcoming IEEE Region 8 Humanitarian Technologies Hackathon!
The IEEE Region 8 Humanitarian Technology Activities Committee, in collaboration with the committee of the 2024 IEEE Region 8 Student and Young Professional Congress, is organizing the IEEE Region 8 Humanitarian Technologies Hackathon to foster competition amongst IEEE and SIGHT members and directing their innovative solutions towards specific humanitarian challenges aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
This year’s theme is targeting
- SDG 4: Quality Education;
- SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation; and
- SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, focusing on ICT and connectivity.
We are excited to announce that we have decided to extend the registration deadline for the Hackathon. The new deadline is May 15th, 23:59 GMT. This extension grants you and your team more time to finalize your registration and prepare for an unforgettable experience.
Eligibility of Participation: To participate, please ensure your team meets the following criteria:
- Students, Graduate Students, and Young Professionals from Region 8 Only (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) can participate in teams of 2-4 members.
- At least one team member must be a SIGHT Member, and one must be registered for the R8 SYP Congress.
- A group must be linked to a SIGHT Group, Section, or Student Branch.
What to Expect:
- Virtual First Phase: All registered teams will kick off the action remotely, building their capacity and refining their ideas.
- The top 5 teams will advance to the in-person competition at the IEEE R8 SYP Congress in Grenoble, France, from July 15th to 19th, 2024.
- Fantastic Awards await the Top 3 Ideas, along with other exciting prizes! Join hands with fellow innovators, broaden your skill set, and expand your network across Region 8!
