South Australian Machine Learning Seminar: Exploring Causal Relationships in Observational Data

The SA IEEE Comms & Signal Processing Chapter is pleased to invite you to become a part of the South Australian Machine Learning Seminar Series! This is a new local IEEE sponsored seminar series on machine learning, aimed at encouraging new collaboration and partnerships across South Australian universities and industry, such as health and defence.

Fifth seminar: Exploring Causal Relationships In Observational Data
Prof. Jiuyong Li, 12:10pm, Friday 28th October 2016, Lower Napier Building LG28, North Terrace, Adelaide, followed by a pizza lunch

Please see the attached PDF file for details of the speaker and abstract, to be presented by Prof. Jiuyong Li, of University of South Australia

NOTE: This seminar is in a different building to the first three seminars held this year.

Seating is limited. To reserve your free seat: RSVP on Eventbrite: http://www.eventbrite.com.au/o/ieee-south-australia-9809125573

About the seminar series

Driven by the spectacular success of deep learning, the field of machine learning has evolved rapidly in the last few years.

For example, Google DeepMind recently announced the first computer program that plays the game of Go at human expert level. This achievement relied on advances in deep artificial neural networks combined with reinforcement learning.

This seminar series exists to bring together South Australians with a common interest in machine learning so as to encourage new collaboration and partnerships.

The scope of the seminars will span disciplines (e.g. signal processing, computer science, data analytics) and applications (e.g. computer vision, speech recognition, medical devices, big data, predictive modelling).

The aim is to hold 5-6 seminars per year, each followed by a pizza lunch.

About the Organisers

Machine learning is a topic of widespread interest and application in engineering and computer science.

Accordingly, this seminar series is a joint initiative of two local chapters of the IEEE South Australia (SA) Section:

·  IEEE Computer Society SA Chapter

·  IEEE Joint Communications and Signal Processing Chapter

For suggested speakers or enquiries about speaking feel free to contact the seminar conveners:

·  A/Prof. Mark McDonnell (University of South Australia, mark.mcdonnell@unisa.edu.au)

·  Dr Sebastien Wong (Defence Science & Technology Group, sebastien.wong@dsto.defence.gov.au)

Many thanks to the committees of the two IEEE Chapters who have provided their enthusiastic support for this initiative.

***Apologies for any cross-posting***
