Dear Member of the IEEE Mauritius Section

Greetings from the Section Nominating Committee (SNC).

This is to inform you that Dr Ismael Adam Essackjee and Mr Abdul Ahad Jhumka, have been appointed to constitute the Section Nominating Committee for the coming election 2024/25.

In view of the 2024 Elections, we are pleased to invite self-nominations as candidates for the following voluntary officer positions, for the period 2024/25, ending 31 December 2025:

·  Section President (Chair)

·  Section Vice-President (Vice-Chair)

·  Section Secretary

·  Section Assistant-Secretary

·  Section Treasurer

·  Section Assistant- Treasurer

·  Executive Administrator (2 posts)

Eligible candidates for the above positions should be IEEE Members, Graduate Student Members, Senior Members or Fellows. Student members are not eligible for the above positions.

The nominees should be capable volunteers willing to serve in their chosen position. The following is a brief description of the responsibilities of each officer of the Section:

1.    The Section President (Chair) shall serve as Chair for all meetings of the Section, the Section Committee and the Section Executive Committee.

2.    The Section Vice-President (Vice Chair) shall assist the Chair in the coordination of all Section activities. At the request of the Section Chair or in the absence of the Section Chair, the Section Vice Chair shall chair meetings of the Section, Section Committee or Section Executive Committee.

3.    The duties of the Section Secretary shall include correspondence, the keeping of the minutes of the Committee meetings, mailing notices, and submission of meeting and officer reports to the Members and Geographic Activities Department at the end of each year, and such other duties as are assigned to him/her by the Chair.

4.    The duties of the Section Assistant-Secretary shall be to provide support to the Section Secretary in the above mentioned duties.

5.    The duties of the Section Treasurer shall include the development of a Section budget for approval by the Section, accounting of all Section funds, keeping financial records, and submitting the Financial Operations Report of the Section to the IEEE Staff Director, Financial Services.

6.    The duties of the Section Assistant-Treasurer shall be to provide support to the Section Treasurer in the above mentioned duties.

7.    The Executive Administrator shall be a member of the Executive Committee and attend its meetings, assist actively in the organization and monitoring of the activities of the Section and such other duties as are assigned to him/her by the Chair.

8.    All candidates are expected to devote 2-6 hours weekly for the cause of this voluntary association.

 All officers shall be subsequently elected by eligible voters of the IEEE Mauritius Section.

Self-nominations should be made on the attached form, duly filled and signed by the candidate. 

Prospective candidates may select up to two distinct positions as listed above.

All forms should be accompanied by the following documents:

(a) A brief biography of the candidate, including career achievements (maximum 500 words).

(b) Mission and Vision statements for the chosen position (maximum 250 words).

These information will be shared with members during the next stage for the selection of their candidate for the relevant positions.
