DESCRIPTION:The IEEE Northern Canada Section (NCS) Power Electronics Societ
y (PELS) Chapter is pleased to host an invited technical seminar on Oct. 2
at University of Alberta\, which features two presentations on advanced p
ower electronics technologies for modern power systems.\n\nPlease find the
presentation information in the following:\n\nTalk 1: Open-Circuit Fault-
Tolerant Strategy for Modular Multilevel Converters\n\nSpeaker: Mei-Fang W
 ang\, Ph.D. Student\, National Sun Yat-sen University\n\nThis presentation
will discuss an open-circuit fault-tolerant strategy for modular multilev
el converters (MMCs)\, with an emphasis on maintaining reliable converter
operation under fault conditions.\n\nTalk 2: Controls of GFM Inverters on
 Synchronization\, Inertia and LVRT\n\nSpeaker: Prof. Tzung-Lin Lee\, Natio
nal Sun Yat-sen University\n\nAs inverter-based renewable energy continues
to grow\, grid-forming (GFM) control is becoming increasingly important f
or maintaining stable operation of power systems\, particularly under weak
-grid conditions. This talk will introduce control algorithms for GFM inve
 rters\, with a focus on synchronization\, inertial support\, and low-volta
ge ride-through (LVRT) capabilities.\n\nThe planned event schedule on Oct.
  2 is as follows:\n\n- 12:30 - 12:40: Arrival\, welcome\, and pizza\n- 12:
 40 - 1:00: Mei-Fang's presentation (15 min) + Q&A (5 min)\n- 1:00 - 1:40:
 Prof. Tzung-Lin Lee - Invited technical talk (30 min) + Q&A (10 min)\n- 1:
 40 - 2:30: Networking\, and lab tour (flexible)\n\nThe event is intended f
 or undergraduate and graduate students\, researchers\, faculty members\, a
nd engineers interested in power electronics\, power systems\, renewable e
nergy integration\, and related technologies. The event will also provide
an opportunity for participants to interact with the speakers and learn mo
 re about their research.\n\nAll students\, researchers\, faculty members\,
and professionals with an interest in power electronics and power systems
are welcome to join us!\n\nCheers\,\nIEEE NCS PELS Chapter\n\nCo-sponsore
