and interpretation of scattering information from full polarimetric Synth
etic Aperture Radar (PolSAR) data. Three fundamental descriptors are intro
duced: a polarimetric scattering-type parameter derived from the scatterin
g matrix\, a novel scattering purity measure that addresses limitations of
conventional metrics\, and a scattering complexity parameter that capture
s interactions among multiple scattering mechanisms. The proposed framewor
k provides a physically consistent and basis-invariant representation of s
cattering behavior. Also\, some recently proposed descriptors are presente
d\, and their effectiveness is demonstrated through applications in crop m
onitoring\, vegetation characterization\, and urban mapping using multi-fr
equency SAR datasets. The results highlight the potential of these descrip
tors for improved geophysical interpretation and enhanced remote sensing a

f scattering information from full polarimetric Synthetic Aperture Radar (
PolSAR) data. Three fundamental descriptors are introduced: a polarimetric
scattering-type parameter derived from the scattering matrix\, a novel sc
attering purity measure that addresses limitations of conventional metrics
\, and a scattering complexity parameter that captures interactions among
multiple scattering mechanisms. The proposed framework provides a physical
ly consistent and basis-invariant representation of scattering behavior. A
lso\, some recently proposed descriptors are presented\, and their effecti
veness is demonstrated through applications in crop monitoring\, vegetatio
n characterization\, and urban mapping using multi-frequency SAR datasets.
