IEEE-USA (AICNCC) / IEEE Twin Cities Section Half-Day Consulting Workshop

The IEEE-USA Alliance of IEEE Consultants Networks Coordinating Committee (AICNCC) and the IEEE Twin Cities Section invites you to attend a half day Workshop that will cover a range of topics on consulting.  This Consultants Workshop event is designed for those who are considering consulting as a professional option – either now or in the future and practicing consultants who want to improve their networking and marketing skills.

We’ve worked to keep the registration fees low.  Included with your registration we’ll be serving FREE breakfast and lunch where you will be eating with the speakers.

  • Parking at the U of M can be difficult.  The closest parking garages are “Church Street Garage” and “Washington Avenue Ramp”.  They are both $1 per hour unless EVENT parking is in effect.  For all the information on parking at the U of M see: https://pts.umn.edu/park/park
  • Wearing a face mask is mandatory for all when inside university buildings.
  • We welcome non-IEEE members and students to come participate in this event.

8:00 am - 8:50 am - How to Stimulate and Hone Your Networking Skills
The purpose of this workshop is to stimulate and hone networking skills. The session will cover the importance of networking, understanding the fundamentals of networking (who, basic process), strategies for networking (how to get what you want, Do's & Don’ts) and the ethics of networking. The session will include three exercises and audience participation will be required. Also, you will need to have business cards to participate in the final exercise.

9:00 am - 9:50 am: How to Find Clients
This presentation will explore all aspects of how independents consultants find clients.

10:00 am - 10:50 am: Creating the Business that’s Right for You
This interactive session discusses the key life and business factors that a consultant needs to consider when starting their practice. Attendees will answer key questions that will help guide them into creating a business that fits the lifestyle they want, doing the activities that they want to do. Attendees will walk away with the short and long-term plans and actions items to get their business started and going in the right directions.

11:00 am - 11:50 am: How to Start and Expand a Successful Consulting Practice or Business
This consultant turned entrepreneur will share his experience of going through this process. He will address: How to build a start-up company, Financing, Raising Money, Book Keeping and Valuation. He will also cover issues like hiring/recruiting, dealing with employees, dealing with board members, business development, sales and marketing and What not to do!
