SoutheastCon 2019 in Huntsville, will have Red Cross DST and IEEE MOVE training on Thurdsay, April 11 and Sunday, April 14, at both ends of the three-day event (four if you attend the special Red Cross DST Training).  Last year, there were a number of IEEE members and others that travelled to St. Petersburg from all over the country just to attend these trainings; which later proved helpful in the California wildfire and Florida hurricane responses.  (The truck was first on site in Panama City, Florida, but did not go to California.  However, trained volunteers supported the Red Cross Disaster Services Technology (DST) efforts in both disasters.  If you are interested, get involved!

Every Section should be represented at SoutheastCon.  To facilitate this, if no other resources are available, Region3 within its Travel Policy, will reimburse the travel, attendance, lodging and meals for ONE volunteer from each Section.  Contact your Section Chair to inquire if a slot is open.  And, anyone additional wishing to attend this event, will find the exposure to IEEE, Region and Section management protocol will add immeasurably to their understanding of their professional home.  Any such attendees should register as an IEEE Volunteer and plan to attend the full Friday through Sunday management training track.  Such enrollment includes all meals and is thus less expensive than attending as a Life Member.  Some employers will underwrite such attendance as a community service or goodwill-after all, you are representing them to IEEE as well.

Best regards,

Steve Kemp, IEEE Area 1 Virginia Chair
