Emergency Communications: FEMA, ARES-RACES and IEEE MOVE

After the 2017 Hurricane Season and with prior experience, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has established a new relationship with the Amateur Radio Relay League (ARRL), Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) and state RACES organizations to improve the effectiveness of the emergency communications needs in a disaster response.  This year's hurricane season and the California wildfires have added to the value of these revitalized relationships.  What is FRS, GMRS, CERT, SkyWarn, and how to they affect you?

IEEE is also changing, ever-adapting to the rapidly changing corporate, entrepreneurial and government engineering environment.  Join us for a light dinner (sandwiches or pizza, soda and water, brown bag it if you like).  There will be an overview of IEEE, your local IEEE Section and the recent Chapter, Affinity Group and Student Branch developments, followed by a presentation by Dr. Joe Palsa, IEEE Life Member and the ARES Virginia Section Manager on the changing relationships to manage emergency communications and what you can do to protect your family in times of substantial infrastructure compromise.  Join us for an interesting meeting--friends and family welcome!  Please register to help in our food planning.
