IEEE Day 2017

We're looking for an interested member to liaison with Richmond Section members for IEEE Day 2017. This is a great opportunity to meet new people, put a shine on your resume, contribute something material to your Section, and just have FUN!

See:  IEEE Day 2017

This is a coordinator's role.  Set your own pace. Meet whoever you like!  Get the ball rolling for a great 3rd of October! This should be more fun than an ARRL Field Day (and I just attended one and had a ball--got my Amateur Radio license too!)

Check the above link, then look through our Section website www.ieeee.org/richmond, under 'About' then 'ExCom' and 'Other Organizational Units'.  If you can fog a mirror, you can do this; and, it doesn't have to be demanding of your time or hold you to an onerous schedule.  If you are interested, it is a great opportunity to learn a little about our organization, meet some of the amazing people in the IEEE Richmond Section, maybe see a little of all you've been missing all these years, and set an interesting path going forward!  We have about 800 members in the Section, about 5/8 in the Richmond area and about 3/8 in the Fredericksburg area.  We have 4 Technical Societies represented by local chapters (and may be adding a fifth soon).  We have two affinity groups, one in revitalization and another in the final stages of recognition.  We have two Student Branches and are looking to add a third.  We have a solid base in the working professionals community and about 80 Life members. We are represented in 35 of the 39 IEEE Technical Societies.  This is a great cross-section of our profession, any way you cut it.

IEEE Day (and the celebrations and activities in the weeks surrounding it) provide a great opportunity to mentor or be mentored, establish and re-establish relationships that are meaningful to you, and make a meaningful contribution to the profession.  IEEE ranks include far more than EE's, including those in the physical sciences, the medical community, legal and business leaders, among others. IEEE is our representation to the political process as it affects technology policy and our careers.

So, please take a moment, check out the link above, learn a little about your Section, and get involved. And, don't forget IEEE MOVE (See: http://move.ieeeusa.org , and the great partnership that has been formed with the American Red Cross.  And, be aware of the IEEE emeritbadges program, See:  http://sites.ieee.org/emeritbadges/ .

And, in closing: if you are 10+ years in the profession (only 6-8 years with certain academic accomplishments), you may be eligible for IEEE Senior Member Grade! Don't miss this important career milestone. See: IEEE Senior Member Grade . All of this comes with your IEEE membership, and there is no extra charge for Senior Members!

Call or write if you want to know more.  We're here to help!

Best regards,

Steve Kemp, IEEE Richmond Section Chair, KX4EF
