The Emerald Coast Electrathon 120 Race was held in April 2016 at the Pensacola Five Flags Speedway.  The IEEE Northwest Florida Section was one of the sponsors for the event.  There were over 16 entries in the race and the winning car traveled 69 laps (35 miles) around the Pensacola Five Flags Speed Way. Electrathon is a competition to go the farthest in one hour powered only by commercial rechargeable batteries weighing no more than 73 pounds (approximately two car batteries). It involves three- or four-wheeled electric vehicles with an aerodynamic body, but powered by an electric motor and batteries. Electrathon class vehicles are principally defined and constrained by length and width (12 feet long and 4 feet wide maximum) and by battery weight and chemistry (73 pounds, sealed lead acid).
