Emerging Technologies for Smart Cities

Hello,

Our apologies if you receive this notice more than once.

The IEEE Queensland Computational Intelligence Chapter will be hosting Professor Simon Kaplan  giving a seminar "Emerging Technologies for Smart Cities", Friday, 3/June/2016 at 12pm on the Griffith University Gold Coast Campus. The seminar will be held in Griffith Business School Bldg, Seminar Room, G42_2.11. Professor Simon Kaplan is CEO of [ui!] Australia, a German-based smart city company that has recently set up in Australia.

Title: AI: Emerging Technologies for Smart Cities

Abstract:

Increasing urbanisation is resulting in cities struggling to meet the needs of their rapidly-growing populations. At the same time there is increasing pressure to reduce the carbon footprint and energy use of cities, for both economic and climate-change reasons, and a need to do 'more with less' in economically difficult times.
Unsurprisingly many cities are turning to technology to solve this hydra-headed problem. Smart City technologies broadly have 3 parts:
- Sensors, to gather more data at finer granularity more frequently
- Analytics, to use the data from the sensors, fused with existing data stores within the city, to manage resources better, reduce resource load, and improve services
- Access, to allow residents of the city to track and participate.

In this talk I'll give examples of emerging technologies, such as the 'humble lamp post', analytics tools and case studies of these in action.
