EXPERIENCE IN VERMONT WITH HIGH LEVELS OF RENEWABLES AND DISTRIBUTED STORAGE

The small state of Vermont has a large percentage of renewables by nameplate (over 50% of Peak) which is almost all distributed and has over 4000 Telsa Power Walls installed and controlled by the distribution utility.   This webinar will discuss some of the experience, uses and applicability to Puerto Rico.


Chris Root
Mr. Root recently retired as the Chief Operating Officer at VELCO after 8 years. He was a Sr, VP at National Grid USA for 17 years in the areas of Operations, Asset Management and Engineering before joining VELCO. He is currently the President of the US National Committee of CIGRE. (USNC) He holds a BSEE in Power Systems from Northeastern University, a MSEE in Power Systems from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and attended the Program for Management Development at the Harvard Business School. He is a register professional engineer in two states in the US and is a member of Eta Kappa Nu and Tau Beta Pi. He was on the Board of Directors for the North American Transmission Forum and was the 2020 recipient of Atwood Associate Award of the USNC.  He was award the 2020 IEEE PES Meritorious Service Award.    He has contributed numerous papers, participated in many conferences and given keynote addresses around the world.   He was awarded the 2022 PES Leadership in Power Award.  He is also a Candidate for the IEEE Division VII Director Position election this summer.

  • Project Management throughout Puerto Rico, budgeting and installing high-speed internet, telephone, and cable television for all types of business.
  • Two years of experience in the health field working with projects, implementation, and "hardware" and "software" configuration and installation for the Ray Departments in hospitals.
  • Active in Cybersecurity topics in universities, Business, and Non-profit Organizations.
  • Research specifically on cyberattacks on IoT devices and networks.

Ramesh Ramadoss

Ramesh Ramadoss is an entrepreneur, author, researcher, and international speaker. He is a co-chair of the IEEE Blockchain Initiative. He also serves as a Vice-President of the IEEE Standards Association. He also serves on the Expert Panel of the European Union Blockchain Observatory and Forum (EUBOF). He received his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Colorado at Boulder, USA. He has conducted projects for DARPA, NASA, US Army, US Air Force, Sandia National Labs, and Motorola Labs. He is the author or co-author of 1 book, 3 book chapters and 55 research papers. Since 2018, he has been actively involved in the blockchain field and has delivered talks at over 100 international conferences in 40 countries.


Cristian Melendez

Cristian Melendez has a bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering with a minor concentration in project management from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez campus. He is currently pursuing his master's degree in Computer Engineering at said university. During his college studies, he founded the RUM Bus student association, which is dedicated to training STEM students on entrepreneurship and software development issues through pilot projects that help the university community, in turn help participating students to gain experience as professional developers and entrepreneurs in technology and innovation projects. Upon completion of his bachelor's degree, he worked for two years with Honeywell Aerospace as a project manager and professional software developer while taking graduate courses in cryptography and network security which introduced him to the world of cryptocurrencies since 2019. Since then, he has gained experience in the financial markets through online courses on the stock market, currencies and cryptocurrencies, while completing his master's degree in computer engineering. He is currently certified as an Expert in Decentralized Finance (DeFi) Applications, Blockchain Application Development and in Agile Software Development Methodologies. Finally, he Co-Founded a non-profit organization called Evolving Space which has the goal of accelerating the mass adoption of Web3 technologies in Puerto Rico and Latin America while he collaborates with the IEEE as the Blockchain Activities Coordinator for the IEEE Western Puerto Rico section.

Manejo de toma de Decisiones siendo profesional jóven

Felix Bonnet

Enfocado desde joven hacia la radiodifusión, Bonnet, mientras estudiaba ingeniería eléctrica, logra instalar su primera radioemisora, WOYE-FM, en su apartamento y

hospedaje estudiantil universitario en el 1976. Al concluir estudios, re-localiza la antena y transmisor en uno los picos más altos de PR, Monte del Estado, permitiendo aumentar la potencia y cobertura al 60% de la isla que sumando a la programación musical y selección de talentos jóvenes tales como El Ganster, Funky Joe, Billy Fourquet, Frankie Jay, Red Shadow y muchos otros colocó la emisora entre las primeras 10 de PR y número uno en audiencia en prácticamente la mitad oeste de PR adoptando el nombre comercial “Cosmos 94”.

Por mas de 15 años mantuvo una excelencia técnica gracias a noveles equipos de transmisión que con pericia instalaba y calibraba muchos, todavía en prueba ganando el respeto de la industria por la fidelidad y excelencia sonora de la señal.

Fue pionero en automatizar la programación usando softwares a prueba (beta).

Contribuyó como consultor y facilitó la emisora como laboratorio para que compañías pusieran a prueba sus proyectos en diseño.

La optimización de la antena FM de transmisión, instalación de estaciones “booster FMs” y uso de música digital y procesadores de sonido fueron logros de Bonnet en los años 80.

Sumado a varios empresarios, fue codueño de otras emisoras que fueron agrupadas en cadenas radiales tales como Z-93, Estereotempo, y Cosmos 94. Como consultor y colaborador, contribuyó con LA X, y lanzó HOT-102, y Reggeaton 94.

Hoy, ya semi-retirado, pero todavía activo en la Junta de Directores de las emisoras del gobierno de PR, WIPR, WIPM, WIPR-AM y FM, y consultor para la cadena de noticias Radio Isla y ;a Asociación de Radiodifusores de PR.

En enero del 21 la IEEE lo destaca como LIFE SENOR MEMBER.
