Panelists' bios:

Kiki Ikossi

Dr. Ikossi has Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Cincinnati with emphasis in Solid State Electronics, and a B.S.E.E. from the National Technical University of Athens (EMP), Greece.

Dr. Ikossi’s area of professional expertise is in advanced micro and nano electronic devices in exploratory materials. Her research interests include high frequency – high efficiency power amplifiers, nano- opto- electronics, sensors, detectors, photovoltaics, quantum effects for solid state devices, and unconventional materials for device applications. She has published over 100 scientific papers, has numerus invention disclosures and a US patent.

Dr. Ikossi has held positions in academia, major research labs and government. She was a tenured Associate Professor at Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, LA; a research professor and adjunct Professor at George Mason University Fairfax, VA, an adjunct professor at Northern Virginia Community College, a senior scientist at the electronics lab at Wright Paterson Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio; an AAEE faculty research fellow and senior scientist at the Naval Research Laboratory, Washington, D.C., a technology advisor for the Department of Commerce, Bureau of Industries and Securities, Office of National Security and Technology Transfer Control, a science and technology program manager for basic science research programs with DoD and President of I-Cube Inc. Dr. Kiki Ikossi is currently an American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS)-Science and Technology Policy Fellow at the National Science Foundation (NSF) In Alexandria, VA.

Currently Serving in IEEE Committees:
IEEE Microwave and Wireless Components Letters (MWCL) Editorial Board- Track Editor
IEEE MTT-S Graduate Student Scholarships, TPRC RWW, COMCAS
IEEE MTT, APL, Elsevier, University Quality Assurance, Reviewer
IEEE MTT-S Women in Microwaves
IEEE NoVA Director
Past IEEE Washington and NoVA Section Chair and Washington Academy of Sciences President.

Yuji Zhang

Dr. Zhang’s research focuses on developing translational biostatistics and informatics approaches to reveal novel human disease mechanisms. Specifically, she has over 20 years of research experience in integrative analysis of multi-source high-dimensional biological data for novel association discovery between different biological entities under different biological states. Dr. Zhang has extensive collaborative research experience in medical informatics, ontology, software engineering, biomedical and basic science fields. Her research mission is to leverage the gap between the analytical needs of arising from multi-source biological “big” data in biomedical research and advanced informatics approaches. As the lead of the bioinformatics core at University of Maryland Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center and University of Maryland School of Medicine, Dr. Zhang has been serving as co-principal investigator/co-investigator leading the bioinformatics and statistical analyses in numerous federal funded research projects in cancer research. She has collaborated with researchers in various disease areas leading to over 70 peer-reviewed publications. Dr. Zhang has also been actively mentoring numerous graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. She has also been organizing/co-organizing several international workshops in the informatics field since 2012. Dr. Zhang is a member of several professional societies, including the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) and the International Society for Computational Biology (ISCB).

Nadim F. Haddad is an IEEE Life Fellow, and a member of The Electron Devices Society (EDS) and the Nuclear and Plasma Sciences Society (NPSS). He is currently serving as Chair, Washington/Baltimore/Northern Virginia Joint Sections Chapter of NPSS. He previously served as Chair, Northern Virginia/Washington Joint Sections Chapter of The Nanotechnology Council (NTC), as well as a Director in the Northern Virginia Section.

Nadim received his BA in Physics and Mathematics from Kansas Wesleyan University and his MS in Electrical Engineering from Michigan State University. He retired from IBM as a Senior Technical Staff Member, and from BAE Systems as Technical Director and Engineering Fellow. He was instrumental to the development of nine generations of radiation hardened technology and products in support of military, civil and commercial applications at IBM, Loral, Lockheed Martin and BAE Systems. After retirement, he served as a Term Professional Engineer at Vanderbilt University’s Institute for Space and Defense Electronics (ISDE). He authored or co-authored over 100 publications and is credited with 26 inventions. He is recognized in Marquis Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering and Who’s Who in the World.

Martin Schulman has over 30 years of technical experience in computer software, networking, and security, and is currently a Technical Director at Broadcom Corp. He held prior technical positions at numerous service providers and equipment manufacturers including BBN Communications, Bell Atlantic (now Verizon), Sprint International, Cisco Systems, and Juniper Networks. He serves on the boards of the People With Disabilities Foundation (PWDF) and Amateur Radio on the International Space Station - United States (ARISS-USA) and is a Senior member of and active volunteer with the Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

He holds M.S. degrees in physics and electrical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and The Johns Hopkins University, respectively, a Professional Degree in Electrical Engineering from the George Washington University, and was an adjunct faculty member at Loyola College.  He co-authored a book and has five patents. He also has an amateur extra radio license and is an active radio club volunteer.
